Just bought a bunch of 556 loaded with 65 grain. Is it safe to shoot out of my AR15 with a 223 wylde barrel

Good buy
Quality, fit and finish is very good. Very good buy, but the sights are not very compatible. I adjusted the sights to shoot as high as they would adjust and it still shoots about 8 inches low at 50 yards. I called CVA about the issue and they were very accommodating. They sent me a new front sight that is lower then the one that came with the gun. The gentleman I talked to knew exactly what was needed to correct the problem. Sounds like CVA knows the issue so they should just install the shorter front sight from the factory. 3 days later the sight came in. Hitting bullseyes now at 50 yards.

Rear sight is poor quality, on what is otherwise a good gun.
Would have earned 5 stars except for the rear sight. Seems to be constructed from pop can grade aluminum. I would recommend to a friend but I would also recommend buying a different rear sight.

A 556 NATO will shoot the 5.56 x45 and the 223 Remington. 223 Wylde is just a chamber it is not an ammunition

The cartridges listed above are plinking quality. Far from a match or best. M262 Mod 1 from Black Hills is phenomenal up to and including 500 yards and if the wind isn’t significant can do very well at 600 yards in a match AR.

CVA OPTIMA 50 CAL.
Fit and finish is nice.
Nice light gun with a very good recoil pad.
I have only shot it with solid lead bullets due to the fact my state does not allow sabot or copper jacket for muzzleloader only hunts.
Does not like Hornady Great Plains 385gr. ammo.
They are DEFINITELY hard to push down the barrel.
After the 2nd shot you have to beat them in with a hammer!
Could not get the rear sight high enough to sight in the heavier bullets even at 50 yards!
I have installed a rear peep sight and a shorter front sight to take care of that problem!
It likes 295 gr powerbelts. Probably because they are slightly smaller diameter.
Target shooting has been great, we will see how the woods treat us come September!
All in all a great rifle. Well worth the money.

Thanks for the in depth explanation of Wylde, and including the difference between 5.56 and .223. My rifle is 5.56 NATO – so I’m good to go.

Tack Driver
My Optima has the Nitride barrel which I highly recommend with a Bushnell scope. This will shoot MOA groups at 100 yards, easy to clean, and with the Nitride barrel, guaranteed never to rust. I put a Quake Claw sling on it though I don’t really like the molded sling mounts. Highly recommended by this pro guide and hunter.

Fine rifle, wrong sight.
The rifle looks good, is well balanced and light weight. All much appreciated qualities. My only complaint is that the front sight was loose new out of the box but it had be changed anyway. These rifles shoot too low with the factory front sight and they have to be switched to a shorter one in order to target the rifle.

Quality
First gun from CVA and now a customer for life. Very well made, although the sights were not torqued all the way. Suggest getting the barrel foam cleaner and anti-seize from CVA also.
