And, with all due respect to Storm, camo 300 win mag, and company, Ruger has a pretty awful shooter by American standard. Yes, the Predator model has a much better trigger, but the Standard has a trigger that is, well, bad. I threw a digital trigger scale at something and saw it break down by about seven pounds. It is too heavy for me and too heavy to shoot correctly. The first stop along the way, at least for this writer, will be at Timney Triggers. For just $ 130, you can land on a Timney and completely change the feel of your rifle regardless of caliber. Adjustable for pulling weight (1.5 to 4 pounds) and for crawling and overloading, a time shatters like ice and will only increase accuracy. The Ruger American rifle 308 is perfect, but you are fighting an uphill battle without any trigger that allows you to aim with the gun. Buy Federal American Eagle 5.56X45MM 55 GR FMJ CLIPPED online.

I have 3 Model 70 Winchester rifles: a 243 featherweight, a 308 Super Grade and a 30-06 Sporter. I enjoy shooting all of them very much but the featherweight is hands down the most pleasant rifle to carry. They are all equally accurate and are far more accurate than what is required to shoot easily out to 300 yards. This is a wise choice if you are looking for a classic rifle with controlled round feed and a classic wood stock.

Excellent rifle. Excellent quality. Excellent accuracy. When at the range, not uncommon to have the bullets to go through the same bullet hole at 100 yards. Within the 1500 price range, this is probably one of the best (if not the best) rifles you can purchase.

After receiving this Mod 70 Featherweight from Midway, I was very happy with the fit and finish of the gun except the way the safety functioned. This is my 1st Winchester. The stock is beautiful. The safety on the other hand had obviously not been checked at the factory as it was inoperable. It took a lot of force to move it into the “fire” position and once their was almost impossible to get it back to “safe”. I tried working it with great force a couple of hundred times to loosen it up but only managed to put a blister on my thumb. I contacted Winchester and they had me send it back (on their dime) and got it back about 3 week later fully functional. At the range I was able to get it sighted in in short order though I may have to play with the loads to see if I can improve on the 1.5″ group. I carried the gun in deer rifle season and took a doe with it. I plan on holding on to this gun forever.

Bought this featherweight to add a light rifle for local game and target shooting. I love the walnut stock and the balance of the gun in my hands, haven’t had a chance to find the optimal load for this rifle but have every confidence it will perform admirably! Love the trigger and the smoothness of the action, I would buy another rifle like this if I find a need.
